Papanoche (FR)

Papanosh, who hails from Normandy, France, brings his blazing and   tradition-conscious hard-bop to Finland in April. The quintet's recent project A Very Big Lunch is a tribute to the American writer Jim Harrison. The tour starts in Turku on April 12. After that, the quintet  will perform in Helsinki, Riihimäki, Seinäjoki, Raahe, Tampere,  Äänekoski and Savonlinna. Harrison's cinematic stories have inspired pianist Sébastien  Palis to compose a new program for the band, which Papanosh has taken   with good appetite, a source of inspiration for Harrison's style.  The band's rich buffet is loaded full of delicacies refined from visual and  story raw materials. There is flirtation with   world music, free, jazz and improvised music. There is   great storytelling and accurate description of various characters   through the means of music. These rich ingredients make great snacks,  actual ear treats! 

Papanosh is a collective band from Rouen, Normandy,   founded in 2007 and belongs to the group Les Vibrants Défricheurs*. The current five players of the band   have been with us since the beginning: trumpeter  Quentin Ghomari, saxophonist Raphaël Quenehen, wrestler-vocalist  Sébastien Palisier, cellist Thibault and drummer Jérémie Piazza.  The well-respected band has toured Europe and the USA, in Finland it has   delighted the listeners of Tampere Jazz Happening and Raahen Rantajatsie. * in Finnish: vivacious sweepers "Papanosh is not a one-trick wonder when it comes to structures, each  work grows from its own starting point, and no basic formulas   for song-making are cemented.
